We bring you the “Domestic Airlines Report Card for India” for the month of July, 2016. We take a look at the Number of Passengers carried, Market Share of Each Carrier, Passenger Load Factor and others. (Here is the Report Card for June, 2016)
Passengers Carried and Market Share
The total number of passenger carried during the month of July, 2016 stood at 85.08 lakh compared to 67.62 lakh during the same month of the previous year. This resulted in a growth of +25.8% (YoY).
The growth for the period January to July stood at +23.01% (YoY) with 560.87 lakh passengers compared to 455.95 lakh for the same period of the previous year.
Indigo Airlines – the market leader with +39.8% market share, carried 33.84 lakh passengers compared to 24.17 lakh passengers during the same month of the previous year, resulting in a growth of +40%.
Passenger Load Factor
Passenger load factor, or load factor, measures the capacity utilization of public transport services. It is generally used to assess how efficiently a transport provider “fills seats” and generates fare revenue.
While Industry managed an avg. of 83.3% PLF, Spicejet at 92% trumped the market leader Indigo at 83.6% PLF also beaten by GoAir at 90.3%.
Cancellations
The overall cancellation rate of scheduled domestic airlines for the month of July, 2016 has been 0.7%. The Overall cancellation rate is generally influenced by bad weather, unfavorable flight conditions, low visibility, conditions at airports etc.
